I am a 68 year old patient of a rheumatologist who has an Allegheny Health Office in Brackenridge. He has been my doctor since 2006 and has guided me through a series of auto immune problems –especially psoriatic arthritis. My life was being destroyed by that disease. I was walking with a walker and not able to do much for myself. Under his care, my life has changed and I have great confidence in him. He recently started a new medicine for me which takes a few months to evaluate. I am devastated because since I’m a UPMC for Life subscriber, I will no longer be accepted in his office after June 1. I’m not even permitted to go to his office and pay for my own appointment. I am very apprehensive about trying to find another rheumatologist who has no knowledge of my autoimmune history, especially when I’m being evaluated regarding a new medication. I don’t think it’s fair that controversial matters between insurance companies should force senior citizens to change what has been working well for them.
